Buchteln

Buchteln are a sweet dish made of yeast dough, filled with jam, and baked in the oven.

The origin of the Buchteln is the region of Bohemia (todays Czech Republic), but as the Buchteln are a part of the Austrian cuisine for many years, they are also seen for the Austrians as a original Austrian dish.

The original Buchtel is filled with powidl jam, but it's not a have to. You can also fill your Buchtel with apricot jam, plums jam or any other jam.

The Bavarians call their Buchtel "Rohrnudel".

The most famous Austrian Buchtel you will receive in the Cafe Havelka in Vienna. Those Buchteln are made according to a very old and secret family receipt. Should be worth to try during your Vienna holiday.
